Robert co-founded and initially chaired BP’s Positively Ethnic Network (PEN) and has been a committed supporter of ethnic minorities at BP since. He has acted as an ambassador and sponsor for PEN and a speaker at internal events. From 2018, he has been the lead executive overseeing ethnicity and related activities in BP’s Canary Wharf offices, and he is a passionate advocate for the need to analyze and benchmark ethnicity data relating to the workforce in order to monitor progress, remove any biases and drive sustainable change. Robert is on the advisory boards of three world-leading business schools, using the opportunity to provide career coaching to emerging ethnic minority leaders.
Kavaljeet leads the Positively Ethnic Network (PEN) at Sunbury, BP’s largest site. For the past decade, he has been at the center of BP’s advancement of the diversity and inclusion agenda through engaging with executives on thought leadership, unconscious bias and senior leader “safe space. This has resulted in huge progress for senior leaders to have more open dialogue on breaking down barriers to openly talking about ethnicity. Kavaljeet runs a series of cultural awareness/bring whole self to work workshops that has increased the membership of PEN and influenced company policy. A strong supporter of mentoring, Kavaljeet works with several mentees to counter self-limiting beliefs, leading to one mentee winning the 2018 Asian Women Award. An active volunteer for SWAT (Sikh Welfare Awareness Team), Kavaljeet supports the homeless by providing food and clothes, and looking for jobs to enable people to get off the streets.
Aleida co-chairs BP Women’s International Global Executive Committee, where she takes an intersectional approach, having also appeared on panels for the BP Ethnicity BRG and with BP’s CEO discussing the benefits of inclusion. She is also a member of the Royal Academy of Engineers Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Group, where she participated in and supported the launch of the group’s 2020 report on the engineering pay gap. Aleida was awarded the 2019 Texas A&M College of Engineering Outstanding Alumni she serves on the schools Chemical Engineering College Advisory Board, promoting engineering to women and ethnic minorities since 2015. She helped to promote the Year of Engineering 2018 in the UK, a campaign designed to encourage women and ethnic minorities into engineering careers. She was born in Mexico and is a proud wife and mother of 3 boys.
Diane is a co-chair of BP’s Positively Ethnic Network (PEN), an influential, employee-led group that is at the forefront of a step change in diversity and inclusion. Building upon her work in safety culture, Diane has led an impactful strategy review that consolidated the direction on mentoring, sponsorship and recruitment, and also leads the “Engaging Senior Leaders” workstream, producing workshops to counteract unconscious bias through empowering teams to make structural changes to systems and processes. Diane believes that ethnic diversity gives a competitive advantage that makes a big difference in creating value, and feels that mentoring and sponsorship are vital in skills-building for success. To this end, Diane designed and implemented a mentoring scheme involving senior leaders mentoring people of colour, which was then successfully applied widely in the diversity groups in BP. She is an advocate and mentor, supporting numerous ethnically diverse candidates internally and external to BP to manage dilemmas and focus on fulfilling their potential. Diane is also a member of “The Circle NGO”, which fights for equal rights for women all over the world.

Over the past few months, Robert has become the lead executive overseeing ethnicity and related activities in BP’s Canary Wharf offices, running regular events that have helped increase awareness of ethnicity issues for non-ethnic staff whilst enhancing workplace inclusivity for all staff. In particular, progress has been made around mentoring and recruitment initiatives. Robert is also a passionate advocate for the need to analyse and benchmark ethnicity data relating to the workforce in order to monitor progress, remove any biases and drive sustainable change. Robert is personally involved with three world leading business schools: Stanford Graduate School of Business (MSx Advisory Board); Cambridge Judge Business School (Honorary Fellow); Cass Business School (M&A Research Centre Advisory Board); and he regularly provides career coaching to emerging ethnic minority leaders.
Mandhir is the COO for BP’s global lubricants business with more than 6000 employees across the world. BP Lubricants has employees from various different ethnic backgrounds and Mandhir made it one of his top priorities when taking the position as most senior leader in the lubricants business in October 2016 to foster not only gender but also ethnic diversity. In Mandhir’s business area of responsibility over 75% of his leadership team are non-English or from a different ethnic background since he have taken the lead. He strongly believes that role modelling diversity at the top level of the organisation has a reflection into the organisation. He stands for humble leadership combined with credible actions to demonstrate that he truly stands for what he says. Mandhir actively supports recruitment to attract diverse talent early on and his guidance and leadership as chair of the BP Positively Ethnic Network governors’ board in the UK since 2017 has promoted the business case for increasing the representation, inclusion and advancement of UK-based ethnic minorities, as well as supporting ethnic minority employees in the workplace. Mandhir has hosted various PEN panel events including external speakers with representation from the sports, legal and music world. BP are now in the 6th year of their Widening Participation Program (WPP) which aims to develop the potential of under-represented minorities in the graduate recruitment cycle. Mandhir participated on the panel of their D&I webcast representing senior leaders with a different ethnic background to promote diverse ethnicity in the business. Externally, he mentors a wide range of individuals across all age groups and cultures, and is BP executive sponsor for Durham University, where he has taken an active lead to encourage people from different backgrounds and cultures to apply to BP. Mandhir and his team have received numerous accolades for their work on promoting D&I.
Carey serves as a board member of BP America’s D&I Council and as Executive Sponsor for two of BP’s employee business resource groups, Energía (Hispanic) and the BP African American Network. These organisations empower employees, encourage cultural fluency and drive a focus on D&I. He is also a mentor and sponsor to numerous minority employees to help drive their development. He participates in regular roundtable discussions with employees at all levels to seek feedback on how to be more inclusive. Externally, Carey is active in the community, including representing BP and his own passion for diversity and inclusion. He is the director of the CEO’s Council for Chicago United, promoting minority talent and was one of the winners of their Business Leader of Colour award in 2017. He encourages active BP engagement in diverse local schools, exemplified through their recent recognition as 2017 corporation of the year by Working in the Schools (WITS). He also pioneered a BP partnership with Howard University to encourage recruitment of African American employees.
Aleida makes it a priority to be visible and accessible to mentor and coach young ethnic minority talent, and is the executive sponsor for BP Energia, the business resource group, which supports Latino ethnic talent in addressing the challenges around career development and inclusion of Latinos. Within the business she is a strong supporter of diversity in the supplier base and serves on BP’s Council for Supplier Diversity. Aleida also partners with BP to promote diversity and inclusion in external fronts, specifically promoting STEM careers to young women and ethnic minorities. She serves on the Texas A&M Chemical Engineering College Advisory Board, and is an executive sponsor for the Million Women Mentors program, a movement working to mobilise 1 million mentors. For the last three years she has hosted and served as keynote speaker at the BP Offshore Technology Conference. She is the sponsor for BP’s participation in the local Houston Hispanic Career and Education Day and is joining BP’s efforts to promote the Year of Engineering 2018 through a yearlong UK campaign. Aleida has received numerous awards, including being named as the 10th most powerful Latina by The Association of Latino Professionals for America and Fortune magazine.
Richard is the executive sponsor in BP for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and for the Hispanic Mentoring program. He is also one of the executive sponsors for the BP STEM high school outreach program. The annual SHPE conference is an important recruiting and outreach effort for BP, and Richard coordinates the identification and preparation of the high potential Hispanic Engineers that represent our company. These professionals recruit student participants for BP careers, lead workshops to help develop student career skills, and speak on pursuing engineering careers. This experience gives BP engineers the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and build Hispanic networks while supporting our diversity and inclusion agenda. Externally, Richard has spent the last 12 years as a community volunteer and head coach for many youth athletic programs as a visible minority role model to hundreds of children over the years – teaching them athletics, but more importantly imparting life and leadership skills.
