Javier is a lifetime member and former board member of the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association, a lifetime member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and a member of the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications and the Radio Television Digital News Association. He led the recruitment and retention committee on CNN’s Diversity Council for several years, and he recruits for CNN and WarnerMedia at diversity journalism conferences every year. He leads professional development sessions at CNN for prospective diverse employees, which have led to numerous hires. He serves on the board of three national non-profit organizations in New York with an aim to improve diversity in the arts, and has raised money and awareness for the LGBT+ community and for those living with HIV/AIDS for many years.
