Akima is the Co-Founder of Creating Pathways, a first of its kind cross-firm mentoring programme for mid-level BAME associates at City firms. The programme matches mentees with mentors in their practice areas, so that they obtain personalised coaching and career advice. She is also a Committee Member of the BSN City Group. At Debevoise & Plimpton, Akima is London Co-Editor of the Women’s Review journal, using her platform to champion the stories of diverse women. Through her various roles on the Women’s Committee, Recruitment Committee and the Associates Committee, she has been vocal on inclusive recruitment and retention and agile working. In the last year alone, she was selected as the Keynote Speaker at the Cambridge University Motherland Conference, the Commencement Speaker for the St. George’s University School of Medicine and has hosted several workshops and panels on heritage and authenticity, including an inaugural celebration for Black History Month.
